*Sportsnet compiled a group of Eastern Conference players that are looking for statement seasons in 2014-15.

*The Hockey News ranked the Carolina Hurricanes 30th among the NHL logos, but check out the opening comment from a diehard Hartford Whalers fan. Those people are diehards. H/T to John Couture for pointing this out on twitter.

*Mike Ribeiro says that marital problems were at the heart of his issues with the Phoenix Coyotes. I’m not sure that I entirely buy that given his reputation in previous NHL spots, but either way it’s going to be interesting to see how things play out for him in Nashville. He could be a nice skilled piece on his best behavior, or it could be an utter dumpster fire for Dave Poile.

*Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse with the Florida Panthers, they’re flirting with adding teal to their uniforms. Ouch.

*Paul Stewart is moving up in the world as a column about dealing with “hecklers and hooligans” lands in the Huffington Post.

*Justin Bourne reminisces about Dominik Hasek, who he postulates is the greatest NHL goaltender of all time.

*Interesting piece from Allan Muir about a cruel summer for Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, who is hemmed in by the salary cap. I don’t think it’s quite as dire as he’s making things out to be, or that the Bruins need to execute any major panic moves in order to get out of their current situation. I’d still put them at the top of the Eastern Conference with as good a chance as anybody else to get to the Cup Final.

*For something completely different: really enjoyed the Derek Jeter tribute commercial done by Michael Jordan’s company.
