*FOH (Friend of Haggs) Kirk Luedeke speaks on Edmonton radio (about 6:30 in) about a number of prospective draft picks hoping to fulfill their dreams at the NHL Draft in Philly. On a personal note, I’d like to wish Kirk a quick and safe tour in Afghanistan as he’s being deployed there as a member of the armed forces. He lives for the NHL Draft, but won’t be able to attend this summer in Philadelphia because he’ll be busy in service to our country. A heartfelt thank you to Kirk – and all of the men and women – that are sacrificing so much to make sure the world is a safer place for us.

*The Detroit Red Wings won’t be bringing back Todd Bertuzzi or Michael Samuelsson next season, and it’s the start of the Winged Wheels turning the page.

*The Chicago Blackhawks name hasn’t been as controversial, or offensive, as the Washington Redskins’ recently targeted logo, and here are the reasons why.

*Rich Peverley is making strides in his comeback from a scary heart episode, and will present the Masterton Trophy at the 2014 NHL Awards in Las Vegas.

*An ill-advised tattoo created after the Shawn Thornton/P.K. Subban water bottle incident is the best example of Bad Idea jeans I’ve seen in a while.

*Jordin Tootoo is also being cut loose from the Red Wings, and will bring sandpaper and toughness to another NHL organization.

*Gare Joyce says that Nazem Kadri isn’t enough of a package to get the No. 1 overall pick from the Florida Panthers.

*Philadelphia Flyers assistant coach Gord Murphy doesn’t see a lot of weaknesses with the Flyers hockey club. I saw a bit of a slow, porous defensive corps, but maybe that’s just me.

*For something completely different: Meredith Salenger still looking good all these years after Natty Gann and “Dream a Little Dream.”
