Michael Felger summed it up best: "It didn't have to be this way."
If the Bruins had come out with fire and jumped up 1-0 or 2-0, the Maple Leafs probably would have folded and been packing to head back to Toronto for a long offseason.
Instead, the Bruins looked like they left their game in the locker room and got out-shot 19-8 in the first period, giving Toronto hope and momentum.
"I give the Bruins no credit," said Felger. "I think they deserve a lot of criticism for the way they came out tonight."
If Tuukka Rask hadn't made some tremendous plays, Felger speculates the first period easily could have ended with the Bruins trailing 4-0.
As it is, the Bruins fell, 2-1 and now must head back to Toronto where they'll head into a very hostile environment for Game 6 on Sunday. Worse yet, if they don't manage to pull out that game, there's no turnaround as Game 7 would be the very next day back in Boston.
The worst part is, it didn't have to be this way.
