UNIONDALE, NY -- The Bruins changed settings a couple of times before finally deciding to practice at Nassau Coliseum on Sunday morning after waiting for some Long Island youth hockey games to finish up.

It was full attendance for B's practice aside from 6-foot-9 defenseman Zdeno Chara, who was spotted walking away in street clothes before the session got going.

Claude Julien revealed that it was a "maintenance day" for the B's captain, who has shouldered a heavy workload over the last three weeks since Dennis Seidenberg went down with a blown out right knee.

At 36 years old Chara has toned down his maniacal workout ways ever so slightly, and doesn't quite fight his coach as much as he once did about taking a rest day here and there.

"It's a day off for him," Julien said. "The big man needs some time off. Not in his mind, but in our minds . . . so every once in a while we force him to stay off.

"He's getting used to it now. He hasn't won a fight yet (about taking a day), so when I tell him to stay off he's getting the message now."

Expect Chara to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Monday night against the Isles -- a proposition that can't be very tantalizing to them.
