The Bruins will feature a couple of regulars making their preseason debuts against the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden after watching the cast of characters working out at the Thursday morning skate.

Zdeno Chara and Gregory Campbell both took part in the full skate for the Group B players that took part in the drills, and should be in the lineup against Detroit. It will be the first game of the preseason for the B’s captain, and the first hockey game for Campbell since an Evgeni Malkin blast broke a bone in his left leg during a penalty kill in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final.

Chara and Campbell will join a group of players that produced four power play goals in a 6-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Monday night. Nick Johnson potted two of those goals, and will get bumped up to a line with Carl Soderberg and Matt Fraser on Thursday night.

It appears that Shawn Thornton will get the night off for the Black and Gold with youngster Craig Cunningham taking his place along the Merlot Line, and this should be the night when goalie Chad Johnson gets the lion’s share of the netminding duties in his quest for the backup goaltender spot.

Newest Wing Daniel Alfredsson won't be making the trip to Boston per the Detroit Free Press, but Pavel Datsyuk is expected to center Henrik Zetterberg and Justin Abdelkader. Stephen Weiss, Tomas Tatar, Daniel Cleary, Joakim Andersson, Gustav Nyquist and Jordin Tootoo also are expected to make the trip for the game, as is goaltender Jimmy Howard and defensemen Niklas Kronwall, Jonathan Ericsson, Jakub Kindl and Danny DeKeyser.
