OTTAWA -- The Bruins took the ice at Carlton University for practice on Friday without their captain, who was taking a "maintenance day."

Along with Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, Andrew Ference and Brad Marchand also took the practice off for maintenance.

Johnny Boychuk joined them when he left practice after taking a shot that hobbled him a bit. The hit didn't appear to be too serious, though.

Ryan Spooner was sporting a nasty cut on his face after practice because he caught a deflected puck in the cheek.
