Bruins-Red Wings: Haggerty's 2nd period thoughts

Share

Here are five thoughts from the second period with the Red Wings leading the Bruins by a 1-0 score after the first 40 minutes of action at Joe Louis Arena.

1) David Pastrnak getting bounced all around after two periods. Niklas Kronwall stood him up a the blue line with a big hit, and then Darren Helm clobbered him against the side boards on a later shift. Nobody stepping up to help out the kid when the Wings started targeting him, and that needs to change if it’s going to be discouraged. The offense will dry up if the skill players are allowed to be manhandled.

2) Patrice Bergeron took a high stick to the face that knocked him out for most of the second period. A really awkward play where it looked like No. 37 could have been hurt any number of times.

3) Adam McQuaid and Matt Bartkowski with a nightmare sequence in front of the net. McQuaid was hobbled by a blocked shot and Bartkowski fell down in front of the net opening up the seas for Luke Glendening. He was able to bury the rebound off the end boards, and the Red Wings have the lead.

4) Eight shot attempts for Henrik Zetterberg, who has been involved in all kinds of offense for the Red Wings.

5) Four shots for Ryan Spooner leads the Bruins after two periods.
