WILMINGTON, Mass. Brad Marchand probably knew it was coming, just as the NHL agitator knew hed be dropping the gloves with Matt Niskanen right afterward.
Marchands obvious slew-foot of the Penguins defenseman behind the Pittsburgh net has earned him the maximum 2,500 fine assessed by the NHL a week after the incident took place at the CONSOL Energy Center.
The money goes to the Players Emergency Assistance Fund.
Marchand was assessed a tripping penalty for the slew-foot and served a five-minute major for fighting Niskanen when the Pittsburgh defenseman came after him following the borderline play. Its actually surprising that a heavier penalty wasnt assessed to Marchand at the time, and the young rabble-rousing forward has now been fined and suspended by the league in his first two NHL seasons.
That is, as they say, putting yourself on the NHLs radar for the next time Marchand goes over the line with his edgy play.
