Bruins hire Joe Sacco as assistant coach

The Bruins announced on Thursday that they've hired Joe Sacco as an assistant coach.

This is a homecoming for Sacco, who's a native of Medford, Mass., and played college hockey at Boston University.

Sacco spent the 2013-14 season as an assistant for the Buffalo Sabres. Prior to that he served as head coach of the Colorado Avalance from 2009-2013, compiling a 130-134-40 record. He has also spent time coaching in the AHL.

Sacco is a former NHL player as well. He skated in 738 NHL games in 13 seasons with five teams (Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, New York Islanders, Washington Capitals, and Philadelphia Flyers). He registered 94 goals and 119 assists for 213 points.
