The Bruins announced Friday that they have signed Patrice Bergeron to an eight-year contract extension through the 2021-22 season with an annual cap hit of $6.5 million.

Bergeron, 27, has one year left on his current deal, so the contract will start in 2014-15 and take him until he's 36.

Bergeron certainly earned his pay day in the postseason, when he scored a team-high nine goals -- two of which were overtime winners -- and six assists for 15 points to help lead the team to the Stanley Cup Final.

The extension comes just two days after the B's gave goaltender Tuukka Rask an eight-year deal worth $56 million.
