Bruins-Capitals: Haggerty's 1st period thoughts

Share

Here are five thoughts from the first period with the Bruins leading the Washington Capitals by a 1-0 score after the first 20 minutes of action at the Verizon Center.

1)       Loui Eriksson with the only goal after Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron worked to get the puck to him all alone in front, and he scored after the second effort attempt against Philipp Grubauer. Eriksson could be a nice complement to that line with the way he plays strong in front of the net.

2)      Another good fight from Tyler Randell, who drops Liam O’Brien with a strong right-handed punch off a face-off. That’s his third fight of this preseason as he continues to push for a job.

3)      Kevan Miller didn’t fare as well in his bid, as he dropped the gloves with Tom Wilson in a battle of real heavyweights. Miller took a couple of good punches, including an uppercut from Wilson that cut open his forehead and knocked his helmet off.

4)      Very quiet preseason from Matt Beleskey. It may take him a little while to get going, but I’ll be curious to see if there’s another gear for him once the regular season gets underway. He hasn’t been much of a factor in these games despite playing with some very good offensive talent.

5)      Good period for Tuukka Rask in his final tune-up before the start of the regular season.
