5 thoughts: Bruins-Islanders

UNIONDALE, NYHere are five thoughts from the first period with the Bruins and New York Islanders locked in a 1-1 tie after the first 20 minutes of hockey at the Nassau Coliseum.

1) Not much gas in the tank for either of the top two forward lines for the Bruins this afternoon. The KrejciLucic combo did provide a goal in the first period, but they didnt have much in the way of a sustained attack. In fact Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand got a late chance in the first period simply because they were so far behind the play to begin with.

2) Kyle Okposo with goals in five straight games after beating Marty Turco to his glove hand with a wrist shot from the high slot area. That OkposoJosh Bailey line has been very dangerous for the Islanders lately and they do damage again today.

3) Marty Turco had a decent first period, but then lets up a goal on his glove hand on a shot he saw cleanly off the stick of Kyle Okposo. It looks like thats what youll get with Turco at this point: decent goaltending but nothing that is going to steal a game away. Fully expect that Anton Khudobin will be up with this team next week to get his feet wet if by chance Tuukka Rask isnt quite ready to go for the start of the playoffs.

4) Tons of Bruins at Nassau Coliseum and at the Long Island Marriott across the street. Wouldnt be shocked to see the Bruins stay at a different hotel starting next season after the waves and waves of Bruins sweaters in the hotel lobby.

5) Patrice Bergeron took a high stick in his mouth midway through the first period without a penalty call on the ice, but didnt miss a shift and won 7-of-8 face-off attempts against the Islanders in the first period. The guy is an absolute machine.
