Report: Iverson interested in Celtics

If there is in fact an NBA season on the horizon, Danny Ainge has a lot of work cut out for him terms of building a roster.

One thing the team doesn't have much of is depth beyond the aging starting lineup. But one player, although he doesn't help much in the age department, can certainly provide some sort of backup for Rajon Rondo -- that is, if he can accept the role.

That player is Allen Iverson, and according to his agent, Gary Moore, would love to play on the Celtics in a backup role.

I have already spoken to Allen about that and many other opportunities, and of course he would be interested in anywhere in the NBA but Boston is particularly attractive to him, Moore told the Boston Globe, because of Danny Ainge, the organization, and one of the most respected coaches he knows in the business in Doc Rivers."

Unlike a lot of NBA teams, Rivers is a coach that can attract many players to his team based on his time in the league as a player and a coach, and the way he handles the current veterans on the team.

Iverson has the utmost respect for Doc Rivers and the current roster of players," Moore said. "Allen would relish the opportunity to play in that organization.

Iverson couldn't find any NBA team to take him on last season, mostly due to his attitude on and off the court. He's coming off calf surgery in January of 2011 that ended his season with Besiktas, a Turkish Basketball League team that he was a member of for just one season.
