BOSTONRajon Rondo underwent surgery to repair his torn right ACL injury on Tuesday.

The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews who is considered one of the world's best orthopedic surgeons.

While no definitive date has been set for how long Rondo's recovery will take, he is expected to be back in time for Celtics camp next fall.

Team officials said the injury occurred in the fourth quarter of Boston's 123-111 triple overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 25. Despite the injury, Rondo still managed to play in both overtime sessions, and it wasn't determined until hours before the C's played Miami on Jan. 27, that he in fact had a torn ACL injury.

Andrews was the operating physician for the torn ACL and MCL injury suffered by Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. Peterson suffered his injury on Christmas Eve in 2011, and was back less than nine months later for the Vikings' season opener. Less than a year after the surgery, Peterson rushed for an NFL-leading 2,097 years which was just nine short of the NFL single-season mark set by Eric Dickerson in 1984.
