Rivers reacts to news of Glen Davis' broken foot

WALTHAMThere will be no large infant sightings at the TD Garden Friday night.

News broke (no pun intended) last night that Magic forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis had broken his foot in a game against the Knicks.

Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports that Davis fractured his fifth metatarsal in his left foot and will undergo surgery on Friday while his team travels to Boston. He'll get a screw inserted in his foot and will be out anywhere from 8-12 weeks.

But with the current state of the Magic (14-31), there's certainly no reason to rush him back.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers was asked about the setback for his former player, who has already dealt with a sprained shoulder this season.

"I hate that," Rivers said. "I hate that for anybody, especially for Baby because he just came back from an injury and now he gets injured again. And he's having a heck of a year for them. So yeah, you don't want that and I don't want it for anyone, but especially a guy that's played for me that I care for, I don't want it to happen to him."

Davis was having a career year for the Magic, averaging 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds.

The Celtics, too, could be without their starting power forward Jared Sullinger who missed practice on Thursday due to back spasms.
