Rivers: ‘We are very close to becoming a good team again'

It wasn't quite a Christmas miracle, but the Boston Celtics did look very good out on the court from top to bottom.

Whether it was the starters (Rajon Rondo, 19 points, Paul Pierce 8 points, 10 assists) or the bench (Jeff Green, 15 points, Jared Sullinger 16 points, 7 rebounds), the Celtics came at the Nets from all angles.

"I didn't think we had one unit on the floor where someone didn't do something good for us," Doc Rivers said after the win. "I just thought it was a really good team effort. Our bench was sensational with Jeff Green. Courtney Lee defensively was great. Jared Sullinger was wonderful. He's just such a smart player, when you watch him you don't see rookie; you just see a big fat guy playing basketball. But he's terrific and he was terrific tonight."

While the Celtics aren't ready to say that they're playing the way people expected to them before the season, Rivers sees some good signs.

"I think we're getting better," he said. "I think we're very, very close to becoming a good team, but we're not yet. Our record tells us we're not. Until our record tells us we are, we're not. But we're playing better."

The Celtics will now head out West for a four-game road trip. How they fair on that trip will determine just how "better" they've gotten.
