LAS VEGAS -- When an injury requires rest, a condensed NBA schedule and seven-game Eastern Conference Finals series isnt exactly a recipe for a speedy recovery.
Paul Pierce played through a sprained MCL in his left knee during the postseason. Now he finally has the opportunity to give his knee the rest it needs to heal during the summer.
His knee will be fine, Doc Rivers said on Thursday at Las Vegas Summer League. But his injury was he had to rest it. He should not have been playing to get healthy. The only way you can get healthy with his knee was rest. So he'll be fine."
Pierce averaged 18.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists during the playoffs. His shooting percentage dropped to 34.4 percent FG, 26.3 percent 3PG, and 83.9 percent FT during the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat.
