Rivers: Celtics knew ‘early on' Garnett would return

Last week, while the rest of the world was hanging on, waiting for Kevin Garnett to make a decision on his future, the Celtics weren't panicking. That's because they knew Garnett was coming back. The only thing that kept the news from becoming official was that numbers needed to be crunched.

He eventually signed a three-year deal worth about 34 million.

"We pretty much knew early on," that Garnett was returning to Boston, Doc Rivers told the Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday. "I would say about a week before he signed. Once he decided he wanted to come back, then it took a good week contractually for them to get to the numbers."

It was clear just how appreciative Rivers was to hear that KG wanted to make another run in Boston.

"Kevin's done a lot of good things here," Rivers said. "Obviously he's coming back, obviously he could've asked for a ton more. He kind of looked at our team and the money we need to sign other guys. It just speaks so much about him and who he is and how much he wants to win."
