Report: Celtics set to sign Collins to vet minimum

Greg Stiemsma may be out, but that means the Celtics can now clear the way for free-agent center Jason Collins.

Upgrade? Downgrade? Hard to say. But according to ESPN, Collins is headed to Boston.

The report says that Collins will get a one-year, veteran-minimum deal.

From ESPN:
The Celtics will pay 854,389, while the league will pick up the rest of his 1.35 million salary as a veteran with 10-plus years of experience. For Boston, it's an economical way to fill out the roster while adding a much-needed big man.

Collins is a 33-year-old 7-footer and has 11 years of NBA experience under his belt. He's considered more of a defensive presence than anything else -- which is probably just fine with defensive-minded coach Doc Rivers. He averaged just 1.3 points per game in 39 games with the Hawks last season.
