Mannix: Celtics should pursue Pau Gasol

Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix joins SportsNet Central to discuss what moves he would try to make if he were Danny Ainge.

The Celtics are fresh off a beatdown by the L.A. Clippers, a game in which the C's scored a season-low 77 points. How much of that is attributable to a bad Celtics performance, and how much is attributable to the Clippers being a really good team?

Mannix believes the Clippers may be the best team in the NBA so he's inclined to give more credit to Clippers, but he does see room for improvement in Boston.

Mannix recalled his preseason prediction: "I don't think that Kevin Garnett can hold up at the center spot and I stand by that. I think that is the Celtics biggest weakness."

What alternatives might be out there?

"I would be aggressive whether it's free agency or trades, I would look everywhere to find front court help," said Mannix. "We hate dealing with the Lakers here in Boston, but I think that Pau Gasol is someone I would aggressively pursue if the Lakers start to continue their slide in the month of January."

Could the Celtics put together a package that would appeal to the Lakers? All of that remains to be seen.
