The Boston Celtics will have a deeper bench this season -- and it's not just the players, either.

D-League coach Jay Larranga has been added as a Celtics assistant coach this season.

Larranga, the son of George Mason coach Jim Larranga, spent the past two seasons as the head coach of the Erie BayHawks and took the BayHawksto the playoffs in both seasons.
Of all the teams in the NBA, Larranga's first NBA gig with the Celtics seems to be an ideal fit.

After growing up in an Irish-American household,Larranga attended Bowling Green University with former NBA veteran Antonio Daniels and thenspent several years playing overseas.
In addition, Larranga was named head coach of the Ireland Senior Men's National Team in 2008.

"My wife and I are very proud of Jay," his father said when Larranga was named the Irish National Team's head coach. "Jay was born to be a coach."
