Is there any reason not to shop Garnett or Pierce?

Gary Tanguay and Dan Shaughnessy discuss the recent state of the Celtics and what the team should do with stars Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.

Shaughnessy makes his thoughts very clear when asked if the Celtics should be aggressive at the deadline.

"Absolutely. They're not going to win a championship in the professional lifetime of those two players," Shaughnessy said. "We love them, but this is Year 3 of the Big Three, Big Two, whatever you want to call it, and because of what's happened with Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger, you name it ... it doesn't get better. So if you're not going to win a championship as constituted, why woujnd't you blow it up, deal one of these megastars. A team that's one player away, they'll deal some future for that. I would go for it."

So for Shaughnessy it's either championship or miserable basketball, apparently.

Pierce is a Celtics lifer, and Tanguay wonders if fans would have a harder time parting with him for that reason.

After all, the Celtics have been playing better basketball since Rondo went down. Is that sign of things to come?

"I think it's unfair to Rondo to use those numbers at this point," Shaughnessy said. "You're not going to win a championship without Rondo as opposed to with Rondo, that's just the way it goes. I understand the sentiment on that. But what I see out of this whole thing is that coach Doc Rivers to me is way happier with the team and the people he has now than when Rondo's there."
