Garnett logs season-high 36 minutes vs. Magic

The Celtics know they need to keep Kevin Garnett fresh throughout the season to be at their best come playoff time. Still, there are times when Doc Rivers needs his most dependable big man on the floor for extended periods.

Sunday against the Magic was one of those times.

Garnett played a season high 36 minutes, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to help beat the Magic, 116-110 in overtime. Good win for the C's, but was it too many minutes for KG?

Tommy Heinsohn thinks that Rivers and Garnett are working together to make sure the wear and tear on Garnett's legs doesn't get to be too much.

"He's got two days off," Heinsohn said after the game. "They're not gonna practice him. Bill Russell used to play 48 minutes all the way through. Guess what? He didn't practice."

So that's how Garnett will get his rest. Shouldn't be a problem as long as the Celtics are winning and KG's happy and healthy. Sunday's win was Boston's second in a row. They'll go for No. 3 on Wednesday at home against Brooklyn.
