Doc: Terry ‘filled a need' for Celtics

His new Celtics teammates and coach Doc Rivers are gushing about what new addition Jason Terry will bring to the team this season.

"He filled a need," said coach Doc Rivers, who said he told president of basketball operations Danny Ainge Terry was the kind of player he was looking for.

"No. 1 on our list, we needed someone to be able to score off the bounce," Rivers said. "When you think about the history of the Celtics and the great sixth man, he's been that in Dallas and he wants to be that with the Celtics. That makes it a little easier to coach."

Ainge said Terry gives the C's "a little bit of what we lost in Ray Allen, who signed with the Heat. He's a fearless shooter."

Said Kevin Garnett: "He's just a scorer. He can score in a whole bunch of different ways."

Captain Paul Pierce has been hoping to team up with Terry for some time.

"I thought he should've been with us four or five years ago," Pierce said. "He reminds me a lot of myself."
