C's close to adding former BC star Sean Williams

ATLANTACSNNE.com has confirmed an earlier report that the Boston Celtics are indeed close to signing former Boston College standout Sean Williams.
The story was first reported by ESPN.com.
The C's will have to first waive injured center Jermaine O'Neal to make room on the roster, a move that should be officially completed within the next 24 hours.
Adding the 6-foot-10 big man provides added frontcourt depth to a Celtics team that became extremely thin up front following season-ending surgeries to O'Neal (wrist) and Chris Wilcox (heart).
With only three regular season games remaining, adding Williams should provide C's coach Doc Rivers another option to turn to in his efforts to get Kevin Garnett as much rest as possible heading into the playoffs. Of all the players responsible for Boston's resurgence after the all-star break, Garnett's play has arguably been the most important.
Williams appeared in eight games this past season for the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 3.6 points in 8.1 minutes per game. The Mavericks waived the third-year forward on March 22.
Because they waived him prior to the March 23 deadline, Williams is eligible for the Celtics' playoff roster. But with only three potential games with the Celtics to work with, it's unclear if the C's will keep him on the 13-man active roster.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers told CSNNE.com following Wednesday's victory over Orlando that in addition to not having Rajon Rondo (back), Ray Allen (ankle) or Mickael Pietrus (knee) with the team, he was also going to probably sit at least "one more of our main guys."
"Not sure who yet, but I'm pretty sure it'll be one more," Rivers said.
With the expected addition of the 25-year-old Williams, that player most likely to not play against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night appears to be Garnett.
