Celtics, Williams could both benefit from signing

DENVEREven before a rash of injuries ended the seasons of trio of Boston Celtics players, Terrence Williams was indeed a player who was on the C's radar.

The 6-foot-6 wing player who might be in uniform for Boston as early as Tuesday's game against Denver, worked out for the C's this past summer.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers had little to say about the workout or Williams, who accepted a 10-day contract with the C's.

While there are a number of Williams' traits that might be impressive, Rivers is more pleased with his experience.

"He's been in the league, that's what impressed me," Rivers said. "You can see that."

Williams has played for three different teams and spent this past season playing in China.

Celtics guard Jason Terry, like Williams, is from Seattle.

That connection, combined with a large stable of veteran players willing to help, may be just what Williams needs to revive his career.

"Playing with him in the summer," Terry said. "Playing against him ... just seeing him and seeing his work ethic, I know he's a tremendous talent."

But when it comes to Williams, talent has never been at issue. It's how that talent is used that has been at the heart of the best.

Terry sees Williams benefiting heavily on being in the presence of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

"There just hasn't been a Kevin Garnett, or Paul, guys, myself, that he can look up to and respect," Terry said in reference to the three teams (Houston, Brooklyn and Detroit). "The kid works hard; he's a Seattle kid. And so, he's welcome."
