BOSTONThird baseman Kevin Youkilis will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Pawtucket. Youkilis has been on the disabled list retroactive to April 29 with a low back strain.
Youkilis will begin as the PawSox DH and work his way up to playing in the field.
Hes going to hit at least, said manager Bobby Valentine. Were trying to get him three at-bats tomorrow as the DH. He looked really good taking his ground balls today, moving around, bounce in his steep. Hell start tomorrow and get him enough, whatever its going to take to have him say he feels good. Probably go from DH to playing in the field and seeing some pitches.
Pawtucket begins a four-day series in Durham today against the Rays' affiliate.
The PawSox lead the International League North and have the best record overall at 25-14.
