BOSTONThird baseman Kevin Youkilis, who was placed on the disabled list retroactive to April 29 with a low back strain, is eligible to be activated Monday.
While that is unlikely to happen, Youkilis is expected to make major strides in his progression Sunday.
Manager Bobby Valentine said Youkilis was expected to throw, swing, and take ground balls before Sundays four-game series finale with the Indians.
The only other baseball activity Youkilis had done in his rehab before today was playing catch, which he began on Friday.
