Valentine still doesn't ‘get' Yanks decision to call game

SARASOTA, Fla.Manager Bobby Valentines consternation at the ending of Thursday nights 4-4 tie with the Yankees after just nine innings had not lessened Friday morning.

Im not annoyed, he said prior to the Red Sox' 6-5 loss to the Orioles. Im as annoyed as I was last night, which isnt very annoyed. Right-hander Clayton Mortensen who had warmed up and entered to pitch the 10th inning had a bigger problem this morning than I did, and he had a bigger problem with it last night than I did.

"I didnt get it. Its not going to make any difference in the Grapefruit League trophy at the end of the year, Im sure.

So again, I didnt understand it as much as, more than I was annoyed with it."

Valentine had some barbed comments for Yankee manager Joe Girardi after the game, saying, among other things, that the Yanks' decision to not play the 10th inning wasn't "courteous". Mortensen, according to WEEI.com's Alex Speier, was as miffed as Valentine said.
