Valentine: Limit voices talking to Bard

BOSTON -- A day after Daniel Bard reported to Triple-A Pawtucket and said that if it was up to him, he never would've been demoted to fix his mechanics, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine talked about how he'll monitor Bard.

Pawtucket pitching coach Rich Sauveur will be one of the few working with Bard, and Valentine said he'll receive reports from him, in an attempt to minimize the amount of voices in Bard's head.

"The one thing from spring training, from the winter time, that I heard with Daniel was that we didn't want too many voices," said Valentine before Friday's game against the Washington Nationals at Fenway Park. "We didn't want there to be confusion. So, in our last talk, we tried to narrow it down to who it is that he will be working with."

When asked if he was concerned with Bard's mindset with his comments on Thursday, Valentine said, "You always have concerns. But things will be done the way you hope that they're going to be done."
