Sox pursuing Liriano, blocked from going after Justin Upton

Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is 15 days away, so the rumors are beginning to percolate.

Including ones involving the Red Sox . . .

According to cbssports.com's Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are one of a number of teams interested in Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano. (Others include the Angels, Yankees, Mets, Blue Jays and Braves.) Liriano, who is a free agent at the end of the season is 3-8 with a 4.93 ERA this year, but had a 15-strikeout game recently and has an ERA below 3.00 since returning to the starting rotation.

The reason you haven't heard the Sox linked to Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton? Boston is one of four teams included in Upton's limited no-trade clause. The others are the Yankees, Cubs and Indians.
