Sox lineup tilting too far right going into 2013

NASHVILLE -- Two years ago, the Red Sox worried about being too left-handed.

For 2013, they run the risk of being too right-handed.

In adding Jonny Gomes and Mike Napoli, the Sox will field a lineup that will probably feature five (if not six) righty bats: Napoli at first base and Gomes in left field, along with third baseman Will Middlebrooks, second baseman Dustin Pedroia, a right-handed-hitting catcher (either David Ross and Ryan Lavarnway) in the event Jarrod Saltalamacchia is traded) and possibly, Jose Iglesias at short.

"We would like to find some balance," said general manager Ben Cherington. "But I'd rather have the right player rather than adding a left-handed hitter just to say we added a left-handed hitter. So I guess it's a balancing act. We're hopeful that we can find some ways to find a left-handed bat somewhere to complement the current group."
