Sox discuss but take no action in suspending Aceves

Some thought that Alfredo Aceves made his last appearance of the season on the mound for the Red Sox last Wednesday.

The, shall we say, emotional reliever went out of his way to avoid Bobby Valentine as the manager made his way to the mound to take him out of a game against the Yankees. Aceves instead handed the ball to catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and walked around the mound away from Valentine.

Aceves has had a few run-ins with Valentine alreadyincluding a slamming of Valentine's office door that warranted a three-game suspensionand last Wednesday was almost the final straw.

Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino was a guest on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan show on Thursday, where he admitted that the team had considered suspending Aceves after the public showing-up of Valentine.

"There was discussion about it, but the decision was made that it was not necessary," Lucchino said.
