Sox come back in 9th, this time hold on, 4-2

TORONTO -- For a change, the late-inning meltdown happened to the opposition.

Trailing 2-1 in the top of the ninth, the Red Sox erupted for three runs, with plenty of help from Toronto closer Sergio Santos, posting their first victory of the season, a 4-2 win over the Blue Jays before a rare sellout crowd at Rogers Centre.

Dustin Pedroia doubled, took third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adrian Gonzalez. Following two two-out walks, the Sox got a run-scoring single from Ryan Sweeney and, for good measure, a wild pitch from Santos to give them a two-run cushion.

Alfredo Aceves, who hadn't retired a hitter over his first two appearances, turned the Jays back in the bottom of the inning to record his first save of the season.

Until the ninth, the only run for the Sox had come on a solo homer from Pedroia on the sixth.

Starter Felix Doubront limited the Jays to just two runs on four hits while striking out six, but his inability to limit his pitch count forced him from the game after just five innings, having thrown 101 pitches.

Scott Atchison supplied the Sox with three scoreless innings, allowing only an infield single along the way, and picked up credit for the win.
