Ross enjoys Fenway digs

BOSTON -- Cody Ross beamed as he talked about how much he enjoys playing at Fenway Park.

A monster homerun and four RBI can make a person smile.

I was just tired of hitting balls at guys, Ross said after the Boston Red Sox 13-5 win against the Tampa Bay Rays. I stuck with my same approach and knew that eventually things would start turning, and luckily I got a couple today.

Ross entered Saturday afternoon batting .182 with one RBI and changed that around by the end of the game. He hit his first homerun of the season -- and as a member of the Red Sox -- over the Green Monster in the eighth inning off of Dane De La Rosa to lock in the Red Sox win.

He started me off with a curveball. David (Ortiz is) on second after an amazing at bat himself. I was just trying to drive him in, Ross recalled. Thats normally what happens, when youre just trying to hit the ball up the middle, trying to drive the guy in. He threw me a change up and I dropped the head of the bat on the ball. Luckily it went out.

Ross got the start in centerfield in place of Jacoby Ellsbury (subluxed right shoulder) and soaked up everything he could in the outfield and at the plate.

Its amazing, he said of Fenway Park. Its just non-stop action. It feels like the fans are obviously into every game, every single play, every single pitch. Its fun to be a part of, thats for sure.
