According to a report by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Ortiz held a players-only meeting on May 11 to essentially tell the Red Sox pitching staff to step its game up.
The night before, right-hander Josh Beckett had allowed seven runs in 2 13 innings and the Sox had lost to the Indians at Fenway Park 8-3.
One Red Sox player called the meeting "heated" with the theme being that each player needed to take responsibility for the team's recent play.
