According to multiple reports from over the weekend, the New York Mets are in the market for a catcher to platoon with Josh Thole. They have explored options like Miguel Olivo of the Mariners and Ramon Hernandez of the Rockies. A familiar face could also on the Mets radar.

According to Peter Gammons, the Mets have also considered trading for Red Sox backup Kelly Shoppach.

Shoppach is hitting .269 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI for the Red Sox this season. In his career, Shoppach has a .902 OPS against left handed pitching.

The 32-year-old would be an improvement against left handed pitching for the Mets as their current backup, Mike Nickeas, is hitting only .172 against southpaws this season.
