BOSTONWith interleague play less than a week awaythe Red Sox travel to Philadelphia May 1820Sox pitchers have been taking batting practice in the cage and today on the field.

Manager Bobby Valentine will have the dilemma, though, of what to do with Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz during those games.

Thats a nice question. Any ideas? Valentine said, tongue in cheek. Well see as it goes. Adrian has said that the outfield is an option with him. Well just decide how thats presenting itself.

Valentine was asked his thoughts on the designated hitter, which began in 1973.

I need a little more time to figure it out. It was kind of a three-year experiment and Im still trying to get a good feel on it, Valentine said, tongue in cheek.

In general, though, when you have a good one, its a really good way to make out a lineup. And we have a very good one.

Valentine was asked his thoughts on interleague rules.

The only way I thought that there should be an adjustment is to flip-flop it and have the DH in the National League city and have the pitcher hit in the American League city, he said. Just for the fans so the fans of the different city can see the play. But I dont know how you really adjust it. Im not smart enough for that stuff.
