The Red Sox are doing something their fans are not used to, playing for draft pick positioning.
The Sox are currently on track to get the tenth overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft. The top ten picks in the draft are protected if a team decides to sign a free agent who receives a one-year qualifying offer from another team. Picks outside the top ten are not protected.
At this point of the season it may just pay off to lose more than win.
