Ortiz: Valentine ‘did a great job' in spring training

Curt Schilling may say one thing about the state of the Red Sox, but David Ortiz says another.
In contrast to Schilling's talk-radio declaration of doom, Ortiz told SportsNet Central's Jessica Moran that things went very well during spring training. And that includes the team's relationship with new manager Bobby Valentine.
"We did a great job during spring training, everybody getting to know each other," Ortiz said Wednesday in a one-on-one interview with Moran. "And Bobby did a great job . . . trying to keep everybody working together as a group. And that's all it takes to win, everybody on the same page."
And what, exactly, did Valentine do?
"Me, personally, I saw a lot of new things that Bobby brought to the ballclub. And . . . a lot of them were based on running bases, playing defense, hitting, pitching. He brought a lot of good things. Hopefully, we keep up with that during the season and once you put that in play, you're definitely going to win baseball games."
