Notes: Red Sox to all wear No. 6 to honor Johnny Pesky

BOSTON -- The Red Sox will all wear uniform jerseys with the No. 6 on back, in honor of Johnny Pesky. The jerseys will be auctioned to benefit the Jimmy Fund.

A pregame ceremony to honor Pesky will be held, with his son, David throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Right-hander Vicente Padilla, who had been on the DL since Aug. 6 with right arm tightness, will be activated for the game. Third baseman Danny Valencia was optioned back to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room on the roster.

Left-hander Rich Hill, on the 60-day DL since June 9 with an elbow strain, is progressing Valentine said. He had his rehab assignment transferred to Pawtucket Monday and pitched one scoreless inning with a strikeout.

The reports are that the ballis coming out of his hand very well, Valentine said. Rich today said he likes what it feels like. Theres no pain. His delivery is easy and hes got a back=to-back coming up. That will probably be a true test to see where he is.

Right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka is scheduled to start tonight for Pawtucket. Valentine said Matsuzaka is expected to pitch at least seven innings.
