Masterful Doubront leads Sox past Tribe

BOSTONFelix Doubront gave the Red Sox a much needed shot of starting pitching confidence Saturday night against the Indians. Doubront went six innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts, as the Sox beat the Indians, 4-1.

He threw 109 pitches (66 strikes), his third-highest pitch total this season, behind 111 in his last start on May 7, and 110 on April 26.

Those three games account for Doubronts three wins this season, as he improved to 3-1 with a 4.46 ERA.

It was Doubronts second quality start in seven outings this season.

The offense gave him an early lead, with two outs in the third and another in the fourth. Mike Aviles led off the third with a single to center, scoring on Dustin Pedroias one-out double off the wall in left. David Ortizs double off the wall in left-center scored Pedroia.

Daniel Nava led off the fourth with a single to left, taking third on Jarrod Saltalamacchias ground-rule double to right, and scored on Aviles sacrifice fly.

Cody Ross crushed a two-out solo shot in the sixth, the ball clearing the Monster, landing on the parking deck across Lansdowne Street. It was Ross sixth home run of the season.

Three relieversAndrew Miller, Vicente Padilla, and Alfredo Acevescombined to pitch three scoreless innings. Aceves earned his seventh save with a perfect ninth inning.
