Gasper: Garza wouldn't fill ace role for Sox

The trading deadline has been ripe with Red Sox rumors, including several surround Matt Garza.

Chris Gasper would love for the Red Sox to acquire the AL East-tested Garza, but explains it still doesn't fill the need for a legitimate "ace" for the rotation.

"He's not what you need in terms of what you thought Jon Lester and Josh Beckett were," says Gasper. "He's not a one, I don't even think he's a two. I think he's like a three. So would Garza help? Sure, I'll take him, but you're sitll not filling the need for that ace guy.

Garza would be good, but Doubront's been good. I think Cook's been pretty good. Morales is good, but those guys aren't front line starters and neither is Matt Garza."

What Garza does offer is durability and experience in the AL East. He's someone who will take the ball every five days and give a chance to win. But is a player like that worth trading away a couple valuable pieces? Garza is under contract through 2013 so he wouldn't be a rental, but how much of an improvement is he over the many pieces the Sox already have for their rotation?
