Francona apologizes to Valentine via text

Former Red Sox manager Terry Francona sent a text message to the man who replaced him, Bobby Valentine, apologizing for causing a commotion by visiting the clubhouse at Yankee Stadium Saturday, mlb.com reported.

Francona now an ESPN analyst in town to do Sunday night's broadcast, visited the Boston clubhouse and sat near Dustin Pedroia's locker as some of his former players pulled up seats around him.

"Yes, he sent the text message," Valentine, the team's current manager, said prior to Sunday night's rematch between his club and the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. "But it wasn't necessary."Francona and the Red Sox parted ways last year after the team was eliminated from the playoffs on the final day of the regular season. Valentine replaced Francona, and under his watch this year the Red Sox have underperformed expectations at 50-51.
