‘Eye Test': Xander Bogaerts

Share

Lou Merloni checks in from Fort Myers with another edition of "Eye Test." This time, he's examining top shortstop prospect Xander Bogaerts.

Merloni is particularly impressed with Bogaerts strong lower half and says it's hard to believe he's only 20 years old. The ball jumps off his bat and has a swing that looks effortless.

What, if anything does Bogaerts need to work on?

Bogaerts needs to work on hitting the ball where it's pitched. He has a tendency to try to go the other way.

Merloni says Bogaerts looks to be a better field than other Red Sox prospects, but the question is where will he play when he gets to the big leagues? Bogaerts is expected to play third base in the World Baseball Classic, but it looks like the Red Sox expect to keep him solely at shortstop.
