BOSTON -- A few injury updates from Sunday morning at Fenway:

Jacoby Ellsbury, who suffered a subluxation of his right shoulder Friday, will be examined again soon now that it's been almost 48 hours since the injury took place.

The Sox needed to allow time to pass so swelling would go down in the area, giving them a better indication of Ellsbury's condition.

Carl Crawford continues to hit in the cage at Fenway and will return to Fort Myers Monday.

"He's swinging the bat extremely well,'' said Valentine. "More than likely (he'll get into extended spring training games) Tuesday. I can't guarantee that. He'd like to play by Tuesday.

"He's taking a lot of batting practice. He might have even been part of the inspiration for our play (Saturday) because he was taking (BP) during the game in the cage (behind the home dugout) and the sound was so loud that I think it inspired some of the guys to hit
the ball hard. He was really making a loud noise in that batting cage.''

John Lackey was long-tossing in the outfield Sunday morning.

"He's on a long, progressive schedule,'' said Bobby Valentine. "To start the throwing process is just the beginning of what will probably a seven- or eight-month road back.''

Valentine said Lackey will be with the club "at times. Obviously, at home, he'll be with us. He'll get the care that's needed. Some of the places we go on road are a little compact and he's a pretty big guy.''
