Ciriaco leads Red Sox to 9-5 victory over Yankees

BOSTONPedro Ciriaco, who was called up before Fridays game and made his Red Sox debut in the first game of Saturdays doubleheader, was all over the nightcap, as the Sox beat the Yankees, 9-5.Ciriaco went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI, a double, and a stolen base. At shortstop, he had seven assists and a putout. Through the first four innings, 12 outs, he was responsible for exactly half of the outs, with six assists, including a couple of nifty plays.The Yankees jumped out to a quick lead on a three-run homer by Mark Teixeira in the first off Felix Doubront. But Doubront settled down after that, holding the Yanks scoreless until Andruw Jones home run leading off the seventh.The Yankees have scored 12 runs in the first inning of the first three games of the four-game series - five Friday night, four Saturday afternoon, along with three in the nightcap.The pair of Ciriaco, batting ninth, combined with Mauro Gomez, batting eighth, went 6-for-9 with four runs scored, four RBI, and three doubles. Gomez was called up earlier in the week.Doubront earned the win, improving to 9-4 with a 4.41 ERA. He went 6 13 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits and a walk, with six strikeouts and two home runs.Phil Hughes took the loss, falling to 9-7 with a 4.33 ERA. He went 5 13 innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts.Adrian Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 18 games, a career high.
