After allowing a home run on the second pitch of the game and running into more trouble in the third inning, Clay Buchholz pitches the Red Sox to a 7-3 victory over the Tigers.

Manager Bobby Valentine said Buchholz was "spectacular" after his early troubles.

The Red Sox righthander improved to 9-3 and could be poised to become the ace of a staff that could be without Josh Beckett after Tuesday. Beckett has been the subject of trade rumors leading up to Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline for deals.

Meanwhile, another player mentioned in trade rumors, outfielder Ryan Sweeney, injured his hand when he apparently punched a wall when he came back to the dugout after making an out late in the game Monday.

CSNNE.com Insider Sean McAdam says that's the kind of season it has been for the Red Sox.
