DETROIT -- Two days before he made his 2012 debut, Josh Beckett stressed the need to execute his pitches.
But on Saturday, it was the Detroit Tigers doing all the executing, blasting five homers off Beckett in 4 23 innings to maul the Red Sox, 10-0.
Detroit's powerful duo of Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder each belted two homers and Alex Avila added another as Beckett tied his career high with five homers allowed. The last time he gave up five in one start was to the New York Yankees on Aug. 23, 2009.

Detroit starter Doug Fister was forced to leave the game in the fourth inning after experiencing some soreness in his side, but that didn't help the Sox who collected just seven hits -- six of them singles.
The Sox had only one baserunner past second base all day and struck out 11 times. In two games so far this season covering 18 innings, the Sox have been scoreless in all but one.
Scott Atchison, Matt Albers, Justin Thomas and Michael Bowden followed Beckett to the mound and gave up the final three runs.
