Baserunning a focus in Red Sox camp

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- John Farrell expects to stress the importance of baserunning in camp.

"For the position players, one thing that might be a little bit different is the amount of time and energy we put into baserunning. From the new terminology that will be implemented, to what we expect in a controlled setting. There will be probably be a greater emphasis on that than what they've been exposed to in the past."

Farrell said the the emphasis will be more on smart baserunning rather than base-stealing, including "outlining what we would look to exploit in certain situations. If there's a matchup between a pitcher and a catcher, what we'll try to do is put pressure on the defense. As far as our first-to-thirds, they're going to be dealing with a new first base coach and a new third base coach. So there's a lot of things we have to cover.

"There's a lot of things that we'll go through, in chalk-talk sessions, to drill work, to ultimately playing out on the field."
